My philosophy

Your natural tooth comes first

I believe nothing can replace your own tooth, in its own place. It was made for your mouth. It feels right when you bite, and it is part of your smile.

So when a tooth is in trouble, my first question is never “should it come out?” It is “how can we save it?” A filling, a crown or a root canal can often keep that tooth with you for many years. Modern root canal treatment is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients find it no more uncomfortable than a filling.

Saving a tooth is usually kinder to your pocket too. An extraction is often only the first step. The gap still needs a bridge, a denture or an implant.

Implants are excellent, and I do recommend them. I keep them for when a tooth truly cannot be saved. If that day comes, I will show you what I see, explain why, and help you choose with confidence.

Before any treatment, you will understand your options, what each one costs, and why I recommend what I do. No pressure. Just clear, honest care.

Dr Grace Mwizerwa, BChD (UWC)

Cleaning, prevention and gum care

Book on WhatsApp
  • Scale and polish

    R1 600

A professional clean that removes plaque, tartar and surface stains, finished with a smooth polish that leaves your teeth feeling fresh. It includes a check of your teeth and gums so small problems are caught early. A clean every 6 months is the simplest way to protect your smile and any fillings, bonding or veneers you have.

Ask about this Read more about scale and polish
  • Deep cleaning

    From R1 600

Ideal if it is your first visit, if it has been a while since your last clean, or if your gums bleed, feel tender or have started to pull back. Tartar is gently removed from above and below the gumline, at a comfortable pace. A deep clean is also done before braces and cosmetic treatment, so every treatment starts on healthy gums.

Patients often ask: Why do my gums bleed when I brush? It is usually inflammation caused by tartar build-up, which a deep clean addresses.

  • Gum disease treatment

    From R1 600

Bleeding gums, bad breath, receding gums or teeth that feel slightly loose can all be signs of gum disease. Caught early, it is very treatable. Treatment begins with a thorough deep clean below the gumline, personalised home-care guidance and a review appointment to check that your gums are healing well. Advanced cases are referred to a trusted periodontist (gum specialist).

    Specialist treatment is quoted separately.

  • Fissure sealants

    R800 per tooth

The back teeth have deep grooves where decay most often begins. A fissure sealant is a thin, protective coating painted into those grooves to keep food and bacteria out. It is quick and painless, and needs no injection or drilling. Sealants are a smart choice for anyone prone to cavities, adults included.

Patients often ask: Are fissure sealants only for children? No. They suit adults who are prone to cavities too.

Fillings and repairs

Book on WhatsApp
  • Composite fillings

    From R2 500 per tooth

Tooth-coloured fillings that repair decay, chips and old or failing fillings. The decay is removed gently, then composite resin is layered, shaped and set with a light, so your tooth is ready to use when you leave. Each filling is matched to your natural shade, so it blends in seamlessly.

Patients often ask: Can my old silver fillings be replaced? Yes, once they have been assessed at your consultation.

    Ask about this
  • Root canal treatment

    From R5 000 per tooth

Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose nerve has become infected or inflamed, so it does not need to be removed. The infected tissue inside the root is carefully cleaned, disinfected and sealed. With good anaesthetic, it feels much like having a filling. Back teeth usually need a crown afterwards for strength. Molar root canals and the redoing of old root canals are referred to a trusted endodontist (root canal specialist).

Patients often ask: Is a root canal painful? The treatment is there to take the pain away, not cause it.

Ask about this Read more about root canal treatment
  • Post and core build-up

    From R1 500 per tooth

When a tooth is badly broken or has had a root canal, there may not be enough of it left to hold a crown securely. A post and core rebuilds the tooth from the inside, giving it the strength and shape it needs for a lasting crown.

    Ask about this
  • Crowns

    R8 500 per tooth

A crown is a full, natural-looking cap that covers and protects a tooth that is badly broken, heavily filled or root-canal treated. Your tooth is prepared, a mould is sent to the dental laboratory, and a temporary crown protects it in the meantime. Your final crown is ready in about 5 to 7 business days and is matched to the teeth beside it.

Ask about this Read more about crowns
  • Gold removal

    From R3 500 + restoration

For patients who would like to replace old gold work with a natural, tooth-coloured smile. The gold is carefully removed, the tooth underneath is assessed, and it is then restored with a tooth-coloured crown, build-up or bonding, depending on how much healthy tooth remains. A temporary restoration means you never leave with an exposed tooth.

Patients often ask: Can I keep my gold? Yes, you are welcome to take it home.

From R3 500, plus the cost of the replacement restoration.

  • Splinting loose teeth

    R4 500

Teeth that have become loose because of gum disease or a knock can be stabilised by bonding them to the neighbouring teeth with a fine, discreet splint. This holds them steady and comfortable while the area heals.

Cosmetic dentistry

  • Composite bonding

    R2 800 per tooth

Tooth-coloured resin is sculpted directly onto your teeth to repair chips, close small gaps, even out uneven edges and lengthen worn or short teeth. In most cases no healthy tooth is drilled away, and the result is completed in a single visit. Very large spaces are not well suited to bonding, so alternatives are discussed at your consultation.

Ask about this Read more about composite bonding
  • Veneers

    From R2 500 per tooth

Veneers are thin coverings placed over the front of the teeth to refine their shape, colour and size, and to hide chips and small gaps. Composite veneers are created in the chair in one visit and can be polished or repaired over time. Porcelain veneers are crafted by a dental laboratory over 5 to 7 business days, last longer and resist staining best. Every veneer smile is planned at a consultation first, as not every gap or alignment concern suits veneers.

Composite veneers R2 500 to R3 500 per tooth. Porcelain veneers from R8 500 per tooth.

  • Teeth whitening

    From R3 500

In-chair whitening with Opalescence Boost gives a noticeably brighter smile in one relaxing appointment, with a professional clean included. Take-home whitening with Opalescence Go lightens your teeth gradually over a couple of weeks, at your own pace. A single tooth that has darkened after a root canal can be lightened from the inside with internal bleaching.

Patients often ask: Will whitening make my teeth sensitive? Sensitivity is usually mild and short-lived, and it is managed throughout. Whitening only lightens natural teeth, so it is best done before any bonding or veneers are colour-matched.

    In-chair whitening R5 500, cleaning included. Take-home whitening R3 500. Internal bleaching R5 500 per tooth.

  • Gap closure

    R2 800+ / R18 000+

Small gaps between the front teeth can often be closed in a single visit with composite bonding. Larger gaps, or gaps caused by teeth sitting out of position, are better closed with short cosmetic braces, sometimes followed by bonding to perfect the final shape. Your consultation will show which approach gives you the most natural result.

Composite bonding R2 800 per tooth. Short cosmetic braces from R18 000, depending on the case.

  • Smile makeovers

    Priced after consultation

For patients who would like an overall transformation rather than a single fix. A smile makeover brings together treatments such as whitening, composite bonding and veneers into one plan designed around your face, your goals and your budget. Treatment is carefully sequenced, with healthy gums first, then whitening, then bonding or veneers matched to your new shade, so the result looks natural and lasts. Treatment can be paid per stage.

Replacing missing teeth

Book on WhatsApp
  • Crown and bridge work

    From R7 500

A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a natural-looking false tooth to the teeth on either side. It is fixed in place, so there is nothing to remove at night. Fibre-reinforced bridges offer a more conservative option for front teeth, while laboratory-made bridges are used for back teeth. A crown, bridge or veneer that has come loose can often be cemented back in place. For patients interested in implants, Dr Grace refers to a trusted implant dentist.

    Traditional bridge R8 500 per unit (a 3-unit bridge is about R25 500). Fibre-reinforced bridge from R7 500 per span. Re-cementing a crown, bridge or veneer R2 500. Implants are quoted by the implant dentist, roughly R20 000 to R30 000.

  • Dentures

    From R3 500

Removable replacement teeth for one, several or all of your teeth. Impressions are taken, and the dental laboratory crafts your denture over 5 to 7 business days. A try-in appointment makes sure the fit and appearance are right before it is finished. A few small adjustments in the first weeks are completely normal while your mouth settles in. A partial denture is often the recommended way to replace missing lower back teeth.

From R3 500. Full set (upper and lower) R15 800.

    Ask about this
  • Flexi dentures

    R5 800

A flexible nylon denture with gum-coloured clasps instead of metal ones, so it is more discreet and comfortable to wear. It is lighter and less likely to crack if dropped. Flexi dentures are not suitable for every mouth, so suitability is confirmed at your consultation.

    Ask about this
  • Denture repairs and adjustments

    Priced after assessment

A cracked denture, a broken clasp, a missing tooth or a sore spot can usually be repaired or adjusted, often without the need for a whole new denture.

Extractions and urgent care

  • Emergency and toothache appointments

    R1 200

Sudden toothache, a broken tooth, a lost filling or crown, or swelling should not wait. Emergency appointments are fitted in as soon as possible so the cause can be found and the pain dealt with. Where it is safe to do so, the problem is treated in the same visit. Where it is not, you leave comfortable and with a clear plan.

Consultation and X-ray R1 200 (R200 booking fee deducted). Any treatment needed is quoted at the visit.

  • Abscess and infection treatment

    R1 200 + treatment

Swelling, throbbing pain, a bad taste or a small pimple on the gum can be signs of an infection. The first priority is to bring the infection under control, then to treat its source with a root canal or an extraction. Antibiotics can calm an infection down, but they do not remove its cause, which is why lasting relief always comes from treating the tooth itself. Any infection is treated before cosmetic or elective work begins.

Consultation and X-ray R1 200 (R200 booking fee deducted), plus antibiotics R200 where needed. The treatment itself is quoted at the visit.

    Ask about this
  • Extractions

    R900 to R1 800 per tooth

When a tooth cannot be saved, it is removed gently under local anaesthetic, without rushing. You receive clear aftercare instructions, and replacement options such as a denture, bridge or implant referral are discussed before the tooth comes out, so there is always a plan for the gap. Surgical extractions are referred to a trusted oral surgeon.

    Ask about this
  • Wisdom tooth extractions

    R900 to R1 800 per tooth

Wisdom teeth that have come through fully and are straightforward to remove are taken out in the practice. Impacted, partially erupted or surgically complex wisdom teeth are referred to a trusted oral and maxillofacial surgeon, so complex cases are treated by a specialist. The scan or X-ray taken at your consultation shows which applies to you.

Surgical cases are quoted separately by the surgeon.

Braces and protective appliances

Book on WhatsApp
  • Braces

    From R2 700

Fixed braces straighten crowded, gapped or crooked teeth and are done in the practice. A deep clean on the day your braces are fitted ensures your teeth and gums are healthy before the brackets go on. Comprehensive treatment is usually planned over about 24 months, depending on your case, and finishes with retainers to keep your new smile in place. Clear aligners are referred to a trusted orthodontist.

Fitting R2 700. Monthly adjustments from R1 500. Removal R2 700. Retainers R3 500 (clear removable and permanent bonded retainer together).

  • Night guards, sports mouthguards and retainers

    From R3 500

A custom-made night guard protects your teeth from grinding and clenching while you sleep, and is recommended if you have worn teeth, jaw tension or morning headaches. It also protects bonding, veneers and crowns from cracking. A custom sports mouthguard is made to fit your mouth, so it is comfortable to wear, easy to breathe and speak in, and protects your teeth well in rugby, hockey, netball, boxing and other contact sports. Retainers keep teeth in their new position after braces.

Why I save teeth

Research suggests it does. A large review comparing root canal treated teeth that were properly restored with single-tooth implants found no significant difference in how long they survived. A second review reported long-term survival of about 94% for root canal treated teeth and 96% for implants.

Usually, yes. A UK cost study found root canal treatment to be highly cost-effective as the first choice, with implants best kept as a later option if saving the tooth does not work. In a clinical trial, replacing a tooth with an implant cost significantly more than treating the tooth again.

Implants are a very good option, but they need care too. Infection of the gum and bone around an implant (peri-implantitis) can develop, so implants need regular check-ups. This is one more reason I try to save your natural tooth first.

Modern root canal treatment is done under local anaesthetic. The American Association of Endodontists notes that with today’s techniques, it is no more uncomfortable than having a filling. It is usually done to relieve pain, not cause it.
