Root canal treatment in Parow
Your natural tooth comes first
Nothing can replace your own tooth, in its own place. So when a tooth is in trouble, Dr Grace’s first question is never “should it come out?” It is “how can we save it?”
Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose nerve has become infected or inflamed, so it does not need to be removed. The infected tissue inside the root is carefully cleaned, disinfected and sealed. It is done under local anaesthetic, and most patients find it no more uncomfortable than a filling.
What to expect
- A consultation and X-ray to see what is happening inside the tooth.
- The tooth is numbed, cleaned inside, disinfected and sealed.
- Back teeth usually need a crown afterwards for strength.
Molar root canals and the redoing of old root canals are referred to a trusted endodontist (root canal specialist).
Why save the tooth?
An extraction is often only the first step: the gap still needs a bridge, a denture or an implant. Implants are excellent, and Dr Grace does recommend them. She keeps them for when a tooth truly cannot be saved, and if that day comes she will show you what she sees and explain why.
Price
From R5 000 per tooth
A crown, if needed, is R8 500. Your exact fee is confirmed in your written treatment plan after the consultation (R1 200, R200 booking fee deducted).
Patients often ask
Is a root canal painful?
The treatment is there to take the pain away, not cause it.
Does a saved tooth last as long as an implant?
Research suggests it does. A large review found no significant difference in how long properly restored root canal treated teeth and single implants survived.
